About

The Broughton Trust was set up in December 1999. It is a charity and company limited by guarantee.

It has a board of fifteen members, with eight seats reserved for residents and seven for organisations including social landlords, the University and the Council. The Trust provides adult learning, youth work, employment support and community development across the city. most of its employees and volunteers live within an 8-mile radius of the organisation.

From small beginnings it has expanded its services to over 1000 residents each year across all of Salford’s most deprived communities.

Our base is the Humphrey Booth Centre on Heath Avenue in Lower Broughton but our work reaches out across the city. We live next to the River Irwell, a symbol we are very proud of. We have worked hard with our partners to enhance it as a community asset.

Many of our staff are from local communities and have shared the life experiences common to disadvantaged areas. We are here to make things possible. We create pathways that change people’s lives.

”They like people, they like helping, you don’t feel frightened when you come in, they are like friends, but they tell you straight, tough love.”
